Departmental Objectives
The Department of Agricultural Economics, by offering educational programs at the Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral levels in various specializations of agricultural economics—such as Agricultural Policy and Development, Production Economics and Management of Agricultural Units, Marketing of Agricultural Products, and Natural Resource and Environmental Economics—strives to integrate theoretical knowledge with practical analysis and the resolution of real-world issues within the nation's agricultural sector.
The Department's Position within the Faculty
Within the collection of academic departments in the Faculty of Agriculture, the Department of Agricultural Economics serves a crucial linking and strategic role, bridging the technical-biological sciences with the realms of decision-making, management, and policy. While departments such as Agronomy and Plant Breeding, Horticultural Sciences, Soil Science and Engineering, Plant Protection, Animal Sciences, Water Engineering, Biosystems Engineering, and Food Science and Industry focus on the technical, biological, and engineering aspects of agricultural production, the Department of Agricultural Economics provides the framework for evaluating the efficiency, sustainability, profitability, and practical viability of the achievements of these sciences through economic, managerial, and institutional analysis. Furthermore, by examining market structures, producer and consumer behavior, farm management, resource and environmental economics, and agricultural policy analysis, this department acts as a scientific complement to the technical departments, translating their research findings into the language of economic decision-making and public policy. Consequently, the Department of Agricultural Economics holds a central position in the faculty's scientific synergy, and its role is to ensure the transformation of technical knowledge into sustainable development, economic competitiveness, welfare improvement, and the commercialization of knowledge within the agricultural sector.
