Dr. Khosrow Khosravi
A Brief Account of Their Rich Life
Dr. Khosrow Khosravi (1927-2015), a founder of rural sociology in Iran, was born in Rasht. He earned his Master's degree in Social Sciences from the University of Tehran and his Ph.D. from the Sorbonne in Paris. For many years, Dr. Khosravi served as a professor and researcher of rural sociology at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Tehran, and also taught for a period at Bu-Ali Sina University in Hamedan.
Before the revolution, he was responsible for authoring articles on the geography of Iran for the Persian Encyclopedia for eighteen years. From 1987, he worked at the Foundation of the Islamic Encyclopedia, where he wrote numerous entries on villages and rural life in Iran. Dr. Khosravi believed that "the most serviceable sociologist is the critic of society."
His valuable works include books such as Rural Sociology of Iran, Land Tenure Systems in Iran, and The Peasant Question and the Land Question in Iran, as well as numerous articles in Persian and English.
The late Dr. Khosravi had a deep affection for the people of Iran and its rural society. After his passing, his esteemed family, particularly his nephew Dr. Maziar Behrouz, graciously donated his personal and valuable library, consisting of 512 Persian and English books, to the Central Library of the University of Kurdistan.
