University of Kurdistan Students Excel in Region 5 Sports Competitions

Male students from the University of Kurdistan achieved remarkable success at the Region 5 Sports Competitions for Universities and Higher Education Institutions. Hosted by Razi University, the athletes secured numerous medals and top rankings, earning qualification slots for the 17th National Student Sports Olympiad.

According to the University of Kurdistan Public Relations Office, the competitions took place on July 18 and 19, 2026 (27-28 Tir 1405). In the athletics division, under the guidance of coach Rebwar Moradpour, the university's team secured four gold medals and two silver medals. Matin Ranjbar (400m), Mobin Etemad (800m), and Meysam Mohammadi (1500m) each won gold. Diyar Jafari earned two silver medals in the 200m sprint and long jump. Additionally, the 4x100m relay team, consisting of Mobin Etemad, Meysam Mohammadi, Matin Ranjbar, and Diyar Jafari, claimed the gold medal.

In Karate, Ramyar Bahmani secured a gold medal for the university. The wrestling teams also demonstrated exceptional performance. In Freestyle Wrestling, coached by Borhan Fatehi, Seyyed Karen Hosseini (70kg) won gold, Zana Moradi (125kg) took silver, and Matin Soleimanbeigi (86kg) earned bronze. In Greco-Roman Wrestling, coached by Afshin Abbasi, Dana Asadi (97kg) secured a silver medal, while Zana Mohammadzadeh (82kg) won bronze.

In Badminton, coached by Khaled Soleimani, the duo of Milad Akbarnia and Aryan Ahmadi captured the gold medal. Furthermore, in Zurkhaneh sports, Mohammadreza Khosravi won gold in the "Meel-bazi" discipline, and Artin Zand secured a silver medal in "Kabbadeh."

It is noteworthy that the first-place winners of these competitions will represent the university at the 17th National Student Sports Olympiad, scheduled to be held at Shahrood University in September 2026.
