University of Kurdistan Ranks 17th Among Ministry of Science Universities
According to the Directorate of International Affairs, the 12th edition of the U.S. News & World Report Best Global Universities Rankings for 2026-2027 has been released. This ranking system is based on 13 key indicators encompassing research performance, global and regional reputation, and the development of scientific diplomacy, utilizing Clarivate data from the 2020-2024 period.
In the recent evaluation, the University of Kurdistan (UOK) achieved an overall score of 28.9, ranking 1500th globally and 583rd in Asia. Nationally, the institution secured the 35th position among all Iranian universities, including comprehensive, industrial, and medical science universities.
By excluding medical universities from the results, the University of Kurdistan has solidified its position as the 17th ranked university under the Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology. A comparative analysis of the data indicates favorable scientific performance at both regional and national levels. In the western region of the country, UOK outperformed neighboring institutions such as Urmia University (Rank 36), Bu-Ali Sina University (Rank 47), Lorestan University (Rank 51), and Razi University (Rank 60).
On a broader national scale, the University of Kurdistan surpassed several well-known academic centers. According to the ranking data, UOK performed higher than institutions such as the University of Kashan (Rank 38), University of Mohaghegh Ardabili (Rank 39), Shahid Chamran University of Ahvaz and University of Guilan (Rank 41), Shahid Bahonar University of Kerman (Rank 44), Kharazmi and Mazandaran Universities (Rank 49), Shahrood University of Technology and Yazd University (Rank 51), University of Zanjan (Rank 54), and Semnan University (Rank 56).

International Collaboration: The university achieved a global rank of 235 in the international collaboration (relative to country) indicator. This reflects the strategic planning of the International Affairs Office in expanding cross-border relations, recruiting international students, and implementing joint research projects.
Quality and Citations: In the indicator for the percentage of highly cited papers among the top 1% globally, the university ranked 663rd. Additionally, for the percentage of total papers among the top 10% most cited globally, the university secured the 707th position.
Regional Research Reputation: In the assessment of regional research reputation, the University of Kurdistan is ranked 682nd.
Subject Rankings: In the specialized subject evaluations, the University of Kurdistan achieved a global rank of 1101 in Engineering and 1272 in Chemistry.
