Another Distinction for the University of Kurdistan:

Faculty Member Appointed Secretary of Plant Production at the International Commission of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering

A faculty member from the College of Agriculture at the University of Kurdistan has been elected as the Secretary of Technical Section III of the International Commission of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (CIGR).

According to the Public Relations of the University of Kurdistan, during the board meeting of Section III of this organization—held both in-person and virtually in Turin, Italy, on June 24, 2026 (3 Tir 1405) concurrently with the 7th CIGR International Conference—an election for the new presiding board was conducted. Based on the voting results, Dr. Hiwa Golpira, a faculty member of the College of Agriculture at the University of Kurdistan, was elected as the Secretary of this international commission for the next four years.

The International Commission of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (CIGR) was founded in 1930 in Liège, Belgium. It is one of the most prestigious non-governmental scientific organizations in the field of agricultural engineering, operating with the objectives of advancing technical knowledge, facilitating international cooperation, and achieving sustainable development in food, energy, and biomass production.

The commission comprises seven technical sections: Land and Water; Structures and Environment; Plant Production; Energy in Agriculture; Information Technology; System Management; and Bioproducts and Biosystems. Section III (CIGR- Technical Sections III: Plant Production) focuses on fundamental and applied research related to mechanization, automation, and digital agriculture approaches within modern crop production systems.

The election of Dr. Hiwa Golpira to this international position represents a significant step in enhancing the scientific and managerial standing of University of Kurdistan researchers in the global fields of agricultural engineering and mechanization. It further demonstrates the expertise of the university's specialists in engaging with leading international institutions.
