The President of the University of Kurdistan identified the development of the Bijar, Qorveh, and Saqqez faculties as a top priority in the university’s strategic plan. He stated: "One of the university's primary objectives for the Bijar Faculty is the introduction of new postgraduate programs and the enhancement of educational and welfare infrastructure."

According to a report by the Public Relations of the University of Kurdistan, Dr. Adel Sio-Se Mardeh stated on Wednesday, September 2, 2026 (11 Shahrivar 1405), during a meeting with the university’s donors attended by the Advisor to the Minister of Science: "The University of Kurdistan currently oversees three satellite campuses in the counties of Qorveh, Bijar, and Saqqez. The Qorveh Faculty hosts approximately 170 students, while the Bijar Faculty has around 440 students. The Saqqez Faculty is currently under construction with 70% physical progress and is expected to begin student intake by next October."

Regarding the status of the Bijar Faculty, he added: "The faculty currently employs seven faculty members and serves approximately 440 students. Undergraduate programs in Statistics, Computer Science, and Civil Engineering are active, and we plan to launch a Master’s program in Civil Engineering at this faculty next year."

Sio-Se Mardeh also announced plans to expand Humanities programs in Bijar, stating: "We are striving to introduce fields such as Psychology, Counseling, and other disciplines required by the region at this faculty next year."

The President of the University of Kurdistan identified the lack of welfare infrastructure, particularly dormitories, as a major challenge for the Bijar Faculty. Referring to the new dormitory construction project, he noted: "This project has reached 35% physical progress. By securing the necessary financial resources, we aim to reactivate the project and hope to reach 45% progress within the next two to three months."

He emphasized that completing the Bijar Faculty dormitory is a primary objective for the university, noting that the establishment of a sports hall and an artificial turf field are also among the faculty's essential needs.

Dormitory Conditions in Bijar: A Major Barrier to Student Recruitment

During the meeting, Dr. Ehsan Jafari Nodoushan, Head of the Bijar Faculty, highlighted that the faculty serves approximately 440 students with seven faculty members. He stated: "The unsuitable condition of rental dormitories is one of the most significant obstacles to attracting students. In many instances, families decline to enroll their children in Bijar after observing the dormitory conditions."

Jafari noted: "The faculty began its operations in 2014 (1393) and currently offers four majors: Statistics, Computer Science, Civil Engineering, and Carpet. However, the Carpet major has been removed from the admission handbook due to the inability to secure faculty members."

Referring to the physical state of the faculty, he said: "The second phase of the building remains incomplete, leading to a serious shortage of classrooms, administrative offices, and laboratories."

The Head of the Bijar Faculty stated: "Over 90% of the students at this faculty are non-local. The unsuitable or rental nature of the dormitories has a direct impact on families' decisions regarding enrollment."

Regarding the construction of new dormitories, he added: "Construction has commenced for the female students' dormitory, and the groundbreaking ceremony for the male students' dormitory has taken place. We hope that the completion of both projects will resolve one of the faculty’s fundamental issues."

He also cited the lack of sports facilities, faculty shortages, the need for specialized laboratories and classrooms, and the limited range of academic disciplines as other challenges facing the Bijar Faculty, emphasizing the necessity of completing infrastructure and adding new, high-demand majors.
