About the Department of Economic Sciences

The Department of Economic Sciences commenced its academic activities in 2013 by admitting students to its Master of Science program in Economic Sciences. Subsequently, the specializations of "Economic Development and Planning" and "Energy Economics" were incorporated into the department's postgraduate offerings. In 2015, the department admitted its first cohort of undergraduate students in the "Theoretical Economics" specialization. Currently, in addition to its three master's specializations, the department offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics. Notably, the department launched its doctoral program in "Economic Development" in 2024. Furthermore, in alignment with its objective of fostering international collaboration, the department has been admitting international students across all three academic levels (Bachelor's, Master's, and Ph.D.) since 2016.

The department is currently staffed by nine faculty members, comprising five Associate Professors and four Assistant Professors.

Graduates of this department possess strong career prospects, owing to favorable labor market conditions and their significant academic capabilities. They readily secure professional positions within key national institutions, including economic organizations and institutes, the Plan and Budget Organization, the Ministry of Petroleum, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Finance, the Central Bank, private and state-owned banks, and other relevant organizations.

Moreover, the Department of Economics is licensed by the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance to publish two academic journals: "Economic Policies and Research" and "Empirical Research in Economics."
