According to a report by the University of Kurdistan's Public Relations, based on a detailed report from the Islamic World Science Citation Center (ISC) regarding the list of the top two percent highly cited Iranian researchers worldwide, spanning from 1996 to 2021, five members of the University of Kurdistan's academic staff have been included in this list.

As announced by this institution, the late Dr. Mohammad Reza Setareh in the field of Physics and Astronomy, Dr. Abdullah Salimi and Dr. Rahmat Sadeghi in the field of Chemistry, Dr. Hassan Biorani in Strategic Technologies (such as Artificial Intelligence, Nanotechnology, etc.), and Dr. Ghobad Shafiei (former Director of International Affairs at the university) in the field of Engineering have all been featured on this list.

This list encompasses highly cited authors based on a composite citation index and constitutes the top two percent most cited researchers in 22 main subject areas and 174 subfields.
