Center for Persian Language, University of Kurdistan
The Center for Persian Language at the University of Kurdistan obtained its activity permit from the Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology on January 20, 2017. Since that date, it has been engaged in face-to-face teaching activities aimed at teaching Persian language to non-Persian speakers. The center's building was inaugurated on August 25, 2019, in the presence of the Executive Deputy for the Expansion of Persian Language and Iranian Studies at foreign universities and centers, the Director-General of International Students Affairs at the Ministry of Science, and Dr. Sadeqi, the University's president.
From the last month of 2019, in response to the spread of the COVID-19 virus, the center continued its teaching activities virtually. Through offering continuous courses at various levels and multiple classes, it has effectively expanded the realm of Persian language education.
In the year 2020, the responsibility for establishing a virtual Persian language expansion chair in the Kurdistan region of Iraq was assigned by the Deputy for the Expansion of Persian Language and Iranian Studies at the Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology to the Center for Persian Language at the University of Kurdistan. After achieving this success, the center's activities expanded significantly, and students from other universities increasingly participated in its virtual classes. For instance, in the year 2021, a total of 106 educational classes were held with 1042 language learners. This upward trend continues.
Apart from learning language lessons, the center's students also become familiar with the culture and civilization of Iran. In this context, each course includes visits to notable tourist sites in Sanandaj city and neighboring provinces. Additionally, film screenings with social themes take place bi-weekly to strengthen listening skills.
At the end of each course, students are examined, and certificates of participation are awarded to them. The internationally recognized SAMFA exam has been held at this center since 2018, and participants from various centers inside and outside the country have registered. The number of SAMFA participants in this center has reached a significant national level.
Following the directive of the Deputy for the Expansion of Persian Language and Iranian Studies at the Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology in the winter of 2021 to conduct the standardized evaluation of Persian language skills in the Kurdistan region of Iraq, the University of Kurdistan was assigned this task. The level of volunteer participation in this region has been satisfactory and noteworthy.
With experienced professors and graduates in Persian language, literature, and linguistics, along with modern teaching methods for non-Persian speakers, and advanced educational facilities, the center is committed to advancing its future courses. It aims to make a small yet impactful contribution towards achieving the larger scientific and cultural goals of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
